Nate Brodie: Nate is the first main character of the book. He is a 13 year old boy that is in the 8th grade and plays football for the middle school team. He is the quarterback of the team and his favorite NFL athlete is Tom Brady. Nate has been saving up to buy an autographed football that was signed by Tom Brady. When he does, he qualifies to be chosen to go to a New England Patriots football game on Thanksgiving, and throw a football from 30 yards away into a 20 inch hole to win a million dollars. He was the kid that was chosen to go to the game, and when the pressure starts to take over, he loses control of his golden arm. His arm starts to fail him in football games; he would throw the football 10 yards past his receiver in some cases. Then his best friend, Abby McCall, puts him back into place and his golden arm starts to work with him again. He then goes to the game and wins the million-dollar throw, and gives the money to Abby to help with here disease.
Abby McCall: Abby is also a very important person in this book. She is Nate's best friend and she pushes him to try his hardest. She is the smartest, prettiest, and most talented girl in their school, but something is happening to her. She gets a disease that starts to affect her eyesight. Eventually the disease starts to get worse and she needs to wear what she calls special glasses so that she can see. Even though she is going through tough times, when Nate arm starts to fail him, she encourages him to push to win. Abby and Nate had a somewhat boyfriend girlfriend relationship, but they are just friends. When Nate wins the million dollars he gives it to Abby to fix her eyesight.
